Manga Art Hotel Tokyo Review: Sleeping in a Manga Bookshelf

Manga Art Hotel gave me a night I couldn’t have had at a standard Tokyo hotel: I slept in a capsule built into a wall of manga bookshelves near Kanda.

THE CAPSULE AND SHARED SPACE

I found the pod more comfortable and supportive than I expected. It had a fan, dimmer and plugs, with a curtain for privacy. I liked the enclosed feeling, but I’d bring an eye mask because some light can come in around the curtain. The shower had good pressure and steady temperature, and shared sinks and toilets were kept quiet. There were practical extras like earplugs and razors.

THINGS TO KNOW

The safe was too small for my 16-inch laptop, and hair dryers weren’t allowed during quiet hours overnight. It’s a compact capsule setup, not a full-service hotel, and I’d see it as a solo-traveller experience rather than a family stay.

MY VERDICT

I enjoyed the novelty and the location near the station. I’d recommend it to a manga fan who wants an unusual, affordable night in Tokyo and is comfortable with shared facilities.
