A playful design-led stay with a park view, a standout pool and a different side of Bangkok.
The room I tested
During an older Bangkok hotel comparison, I stayed in the SO/ Bangkok after trying a much cheaper room and filming a Pullman Grande Asoke room tour. I was upgraded into a Water element room, one of the hotel’s themed designs. I liked the strong, playful look and the large bath; the room also had a view across Lumpini Park.
Park, pool and getting around
The park-side setting gave the stay a different feel from the Sukhumvit hotels I often choose. I enjoyed the infinity pool and the views, even though it was not a huge pool. Lumpini MRT was close by, and I found it straightforward to reach the Siam area by taxi when traffic allowed. It is a better fit for someone who wants a design-led stay beside the park than a hotel right in the middle of Sukhumvit nightlife.
My verdict
I remember SO/ Bangkok as the most distinctive hotel in that particular budget-to-luxury test. The themed room, park outlook and pool made it feel special. My footage is from an earlier stay, so I would check current room categories and rates before booking.
