Mercure Tokyu Stay Osaka Namba Review: A Clever Apartment-Style Stay near Dotonbori

I stayed at Mercure Tokyu Stay Osaka Namba, a dual-brand hotel in Osaka’s Minami district, between Namba and Shinsaibashi and within an easy walk of Dotonbori. I had a Privilege Queen room with a washer-dryer. Because I had Platinum status, the hotel upgraded me from a Standard Queen; I wouldn’t count on that room type or its washer when booking a standard room. The room was smaller than the one I had the night before, but it made clever use of its space.

A SMALL ROOM THAT WORKS HARD

I liked the colourful design and moody lighting, although the room could feel dim when I was looking for things or packing. My room was compact but thoughtfully laid out, with space for my suitcase, a separate toilet and bathing area, and a comfortable spot by the window. I also had a nice view from my high-floor room.

The apartment-style setup was the biggest practical surprise. My room had a washer-dryer, microwave, cooking equipment, dishes, an extractor fan and two refrigerators. I found those features especially useful for laundry, simple meals and a stay of more than a night or two.

HOTEL SPACES AND EXTRAS

I received two drink vouchers and took my drinks upstairs when the bar was busy. Above the lobby, I found a relaxed games and lounge area with places to sit, work or hang out. The gym looked stylish, but I saw only a few machines and no weights, so it would not suit a full strength workout.

LOCATION: THE BIG ADVANTAGE

I liked being in the middle of Minami’s dining and entertainment district, close to Namba, Shinsaibashi and Dotonbori. I used Shinsaibashi Station most; it was not necessarily the closest station, but it gave me the most direct route for my Osaka and Shin-Osaka trips. Restaurants and nightlife were right around the hotel, which suited me when I wanted Osaka’s food and evening atmosphere nearby. I would choose a quieter neighbourhood if that is more important to you. Check the route from your own arrival point before you travel.

MY VERDICT

I would choose Mercure Tokyu Stay Osaka Namba for a central Osaka stay when location, design and useful in-room features matter to me. My room was compact, but the washer-dryer and kitchen equipment made it unusually practical. I would choose Hotel Sobial to keep costs down; I would choose Mercure for a better-equipped base in the middle of the action. Compare current prices for your dates.
